Creating Web Pages

By On January 31, 2009 No Comments

The Internet is probably already our prime source of entertainment these days. I mean, come on, think about how much time you actually spend online. We download music, watch movies, send email, work, write, and frolic endlessly in cyberspace, you name it. Suddenly, all the rage is to create web pages. Everyone seems to want their own website or page to post whatever.

Web pages are owned by countless computer goers. The big thing is, they’re free. If you desire your own personal space for others to review and comment, no problem, it’s available. Everyone is taking advantage of this goldmine of freedom and space that comes without a price tag, and the best thing is, it is infinite. It literally can’t run out.

Internet sites such as smplanet.com and superpages.com will aid you in your journey to a personal web page. You can actually create web pages in minutes. Other sites like myspace.com are ruled by millions of random people, just looking for a place to post pictures and info about their selves and families. It is a good way to communicate and share on a public site without the hassle of monthly fees.

Although these personal web pages have become so popular, there are measures to take when diving into cyberspace. We have to remember that once we post information on these public sites, our lives can be viewed by millions, and we may not always like who’s viewing. It is always good to be careful as to what you post for the world to see.

The phenomenal Internet has provided all of us with a modem, access to infinite things. Creating web pages is just another cog in the machine. The idea and possibilities are endless. If you wish to create a web page for mere blogging, this is an option as well. For those who are not blog savvy, let me offer a quick clarification. Blogging has become prominent for many reasons. Two of which are; it’s free, and it’s easy. If you’re looking to sell something, start a blog, if you’re looking to get advice, start a blog, if you’re trying to buy stuff, start a blog, or even if you’re looking for employees of some sort and wish for a larger audience, start a blog. A good site to check into in reference to blogging is blogger.com, which is also free.

Yes, creating your own web pages is certainly a popular choice these days. If you’re looking to post without dealing with fees or monthly charges, no worries, the Internet has it covered.

For Those With No 401K, Social Security Is Critical

By On January 31, 2009 No Comments

It’s hard to believe that Social Security has been with us for over sixty years – before there was even such as thing as a 401 retirement plan. The first Social Security check went out in the mail in 1940 even though President Roosevelt had signed the Social Security Act into law, five years earlier. Since then, many American seniors have been thankful to receive that monthly financial safety net as they entered their retirement years.

In the original incarnation of the bill, Social Security benefits were only to be paid to the primary worker. But, before the bill went live, additional benefits for the spouse and children were added.

Many people mistakenly believe that the Social Security system is like an investment annuity, where you lend money to the government and let them invest it with the expectation that you will live off the resulting income. In truth, however, the system is closer to a government welfare program. The collection of payroll taxes , which funds the Social Security program, is handled under the authorization of the Federal Insurance Contributions Act, better known as FICA. FICA is like the enforcement arm of the system. It ensures that every worker “contributes” his or her fair share to the government pool.

Every new generation of workers is obligated to care for the previous generation’s retirees. The sum of money that you eventually receive from the government has only a slight relationship to the amount of money that was withheld from your check over the years. From the very beginning, the system has collected over 9 trillion dollars from contributors and paid them out to recipients.

How You Can Write A Great Acting Resume

By On January 31, 2009 No Comments

The headshot expresses the look and feel of the actor at a glance, but the actors resume sells the versatility, skillfullness, and success of an actor before he or she ever shows up to the audition. In this article we will go back over the reasons for creating an acting resume and from there discuss what should and should not go in it and why.

An acting resume should take up precisely one side of one page, and you will usually want to staple it to the back of your head shot. This single page should represent you as an artist, as an entertainer, as an employee, and as a colleague. So the main thing is to understand what auditioners want from you. What show are they putting up, and how does it compare to their previous shows? What sorts of actors do they like to use, and what kinds of people do they usually use for the type of part you’re trying out for? Once you’ve considered what they’re looking for, the only thing to do is to try and give it to them. Since you’re a professional actor, this should be the easy part.

The main thing to have in mind is that your acting resume should represent the part you want to play more than you as an independent entity. So, you should twist and pull at the facts of your professional life until they fit, as closely as possible, the specific audition. Don’t lie; simply try to select and highlight the parts of your acting career that are the best fit for this show. This is a little bit of an extra investment in terms of time and energy, but it’s not that big an investment. The fifteen minutes that you spend for each audition could be the difference between your next big break and your next season of waiting tables.

Car Dvd Entertainment

By On January 30, 2009 No Comments

Today’s auto market is becoming more and more varied, with Hummers lining up next to Smart Cars and Geo Metros in dealer lots.  One of the first things many people do when they buy a new vehicle is to make it their own by adding custom touches.  Bored spouses and kids make in car DVD systems one of the hottest new upgrades on the auto market.

Imagine, you’re headed across the country with your family to visit the in-laws in Omaha, and your kids are driving you crazy.  A car DVD system allows you to pop in one of their favorite movies and have them entertained for hours while on the road, now that is pure gold.

There are two main types of in car DVD systems: portable and in-dash.  Portable systems, though not as sleek or worry-free as the in-dash systems, are considerably cheaper and more versatile.  They are usually powered by your car’s 12-volt power adapter but can be converted to run from your home’s power supply, allowing you to take the DVD player and monitor into your in-laws house when your happy family arrives.

In-dash car DVD systems are hardwired into your vehicle’s entertainment system.  They display movies either on a screen in the centre-console, on a screen that descends from the roof of the vehicle, or on a screen which flips up from the dashboard.  Though these systems aren’t portable outside the vehicle, once installed they don’t require any extra cords or setup: you can load in your movies and drive away.  Screens located either on the centre-console or which flip up from the dashboard can double as displays for in-car GPS or navigation software, but they can be distracting to drivers.  The flip-down screens avoid driver distraction, but they are usually only convenient for back-seat viewing, leaving a front seat passenger to count license plates or play I-Spy with the driver.

In car DVD systems are perhaps the biggest boon to the long family road trip since Car Bingo, and as the technology improves you can expect the systems to get smaller, lighter, and cheaper.  Though portable systems are still the choice for families on the go since they require no expensive installation or conversion, more and more auto manufacturers have plans to include built-in systems in their vehicles, especially upscale and family autos.  It may be tough to find a driver for your next road trip, as the entire family will be stretched out in the back seat, munching on popcorn and watching a film.

Social media comes of age

By On January 29, 2009 No Comments

If you’ve been on Facebook at all you’ve probably heard about it but if not something massive is going down right before your eyes so it’s time to wake up to it and be a part of it

Social traffic is the name and collaboration between you and 30 social media experts is the game

What’s very cool about it is it’s a completely virtual company. We’re building a collaborative social media group all moving in unison toward 1 common goal. And it will be extremely powerful due to the collaboration.

Current technology allows you to work with other like-minded people and experts you’ve never met in person…and do so effectively

In the interest of full disclosure I have met zero of these people face to face in the off-line world.

I’ve met them exclusively through Facebook, Skype and Twitter

Where most of the business training in Internet marketing training products fall through is the law of numbers.  It’s been proven time and again that 90% of people never break off the proverbial “shrink wrap” off the product.

Now of course when it’s a digital product there’s obviously no shrinkwrap but people never even open the file.

You’ve probably been disappointed by trainings before due to lack of implementation. I know I have.

Without implementation absolutely nothing happens and that’s why you see so many people whining and complaining on the forums that “this system or that system didn’t work for me.”

That’s what’s so cool about the social traffic community we’re building.

You’ll have access to the top 30 experts operating on the bleeding edge of social media.

The best part for you is the training’s free.

So you’re probably asking “what’s the catch?”

This is training you can’t buy anywhere else and is of extremely high quality so why are we giving it away?

The simple answer is we’re not.  We’re just not charging any money for it.

The way you qualify to receive this training is by you pledging your commitment of roughly 7 hours per week to be a participant in our initial campaign launch which will revolve around the Earth Day Birthday Charity event.

This is going to be event 15 and there are many awesome rockers and musical performers who’ll be performing

But we’re going to bring a new spin on it using the power of social media and getting people virally talking about the event.

You’ll be a participant each step of the way seeing how we use the specific sites and what steps we take to garner massive attention in the marketplace.

And of course, after the initial campaign is over you’ll be participating with us in future campaigns but in the meantime you’ll be able to apply the knowledge you gain from the experience of actually doing it to your own business so you can make money right out of the gate.

This is where most training programs fall apart.  There is no useful, actual real-world experience.

And that’s the biggest benefit you’ll get from being a part of this and dedicating your seven hours per week.  The campaign is scheduled to complete in April.  So you’re looking at a roughly 4 to 8 week commitment and clear cut experiental training.

You get a mentor and will be part of a weekly training call for planning and question answering

However, we do have to keep you honest so if you don’t meet your activity level for the week your account credentials will be turned off and you won’t have access to anymore free training.

So now you know the value exchange and what’s required of you.

This is a ground breaking opportunity I’ve never heard of before because most times to get this level of training and hand holding you have to pay $5,000 – $10,000 upfront

I don’t want to put any pressure on you but we can only accept a limited number of members because of the hand holding and weekly time commitment with your mentor. And it’s not about pressuring you to do something your heart isn’t into.  It’s simply about finding you if you’re looking for some quality training you don’t have to pay thousands of dollars for and can actually get real-world experience you can apply to your own business once it’s over, then this is for you.

I’ll look forward to seeing you on the other side…the insider side of social traffic winners.

Antique Singer Sewing Machines

By On January 29, 2009 No Comments

A sewing machine is a textile machine used to stitch fabric or other material together with thread. Sewing machines were invented during the first Industrial Revolution to decrease the amount of manual sewing work performed in clothing companies. Since the invention of the first working sewing machine, generally considered to have been the work of Englishman Thomas Saint in 1790, the sewing machine has vastly improved the efficiency and productivity of fabric and clothing industries.

Though some older machines use a chain stitch, the basic stitch of a modern sewing machine consists of two threads and is known as lockstitch. Industrial machines are usually specialized for a specific task, and so different machines may produce a different type of stitch. Modern sewing machines are designed in such a way that the fabric easily glides in and out of the machine without the hassle of needles and thimbles and other such tools used in hand sewing, automating the process of stitching and saving time.

The fabric shifting mechanism may be a simple workguide or may be pattern-controlled (e.g., jacquard type). Some machines can create embroidery-type stitches. Some have a work holder frame. Some have a workfeeder that can move along a curved path, while others have a workfeeder with a work clamp. Needle guards, safety devices to prevent accidental needle-stick injuries, are often found on modern sewing machines.

You can find many good sewing machines on the internet. My personal favorites are Antique Singer Sewing Machines. Singer is a high quality brand that has been around for many years.

Considering a Career in Home Staging?

By On January 28, 2009 No Comments

There continues to be more discussion in the forums about the Home Staging business as a career choice. There are even two new television shows that are dedicated to Home Staging but let’s take a critical look and see if all of this excitement is realistic and if this really is something that a wise person might want to pursue as a career and also what kind of Home Staging courses are available.

Home Staging can easily be explained as the task of making a house look better and getting it ready to be shown for sale. It’s really getting your car washed and cleaned before putting it out in front of your house with a “For Sale” sign. It’s pretty obvious that things that look better also sell better weather it be a car, a piece of furniture or a house. These are the types of things that will be covered in Home Staging Classes.

The information obtained through the National Association of Realtors very much confirms this statement as their studies show that professionally staged houses sell on average 5 times faster than unstaged homes and that over 90% of staged homes sell in less than one month.

This means that as the real estate market continues to get even softer: primarily because of the flood of foreclosed properties that the demand for Home Staging services continues to grow as a way to facilitate these property sales in a reasonable time.

As could be expected, the growth of the Home Staging market has also led to a mushrooming of Home Staging Training courses. A person needs to use some judgment before signing up with one of these training courses as many of them seem to be very over-priced.

PDA Anti Virus – Who Really Needs Them?

By On January 28, 2009 No Comments

Just a few short years ago, a PDA anti-virus was not necessary.

The viruses, worms, Trojan horses and the like were the concern of PC owners only. But as we all know things in the online world change very fast, and these days all PDA’s surf the web frequently. The popularity of PDA’s and the ease of access to wireless surfing at wi-fi hotspots is a blessed phenomena. But while this is a good development, new throats enter the arena. Today’s worlds of pocket pc’s is as dangerous as the regular PC’s. Numerous viruses, Trojan horses and key loggers are speeded each day, thus forcing PDA owners to arm themselves with the proper protection.

Let’s take a look a few of the treats that have immersed in today’s PDA environment:

1. If you are surfing the web, there are types of viruses and Trojan horses who “know” how to penetrate your PDA and do their worst. You therefore need proper protection from infected files, just like any PC user who surfs the web, downloads files, reads emails etc. The rule of thumb goes like this: If a PC needs this protection, then a PDA user needs it also.

2. If you are surfing and downloading emails wirelessly, then you need even better protection. If the information you beam and receive in not encrypted, a hacker can read your e-mails and attachments, see what websites you visit, and even worse, steal your personal and financial information. A hacker can even illegally download copyrighted material or launch attacks using your identity. This calls for a Wireless Home Network Security protection system which makes sure all the information you send from your PDA in encrypted, so no hacker can reach it and grab it form thin air. The McAfee or the Caspersky products are recommended for this matter.

3. If you are using your PDA to access sensitive material like your bank account, you need to be extra careful and make sure both your communication and your PDA itself are secured. Don’t rely only on the security measures that the bank’s website have because they are rarely enough to stop a really good hacker.

Just like in the PC world, You need to stay updated and on top of things. You’ll want to update your anti-virus every day through the live update option that most anti-virus software products have. This will ensure your PDA has maximum protection. Always remember that it’s better to take care of this in advance as it’s always more painful and expensive to revive a computer that was taken by a virus.

Ten Helpful Guidelines for Travelers to Hawaii on Business

By On January 27, 2009 No Comments

Taking a business trip to Hawaii is a great opportunity to take advantage of your surroundings while the company foots the bill. In between your business meetings and presentations, you can soak up the rays and see a few sights- if you can keep on schedule and keep to your work schedule.

Business travel to Hawaii can be made easier with a few tips to save you time and money so you can work in a few hours of rest and relaxation.

Tips for Business Travel to Hawaii

1. If you are traveling to Hawaii from outside of the United States, keeping extra copies of your passport on hand will speed up your trip through customs. Once the customs agent verifies that the copy matches your original passport, you are waved through without waiting for the agent to make his own copy. Keep your passport, tickets and receipts in the same place.

2. Carry your laptop with you. If needed, your wireless laptop can access the airport’s WI-FI network to make last minute flight changes, locate a hotel room or secure a rental car. This can save you from standing in line to make changes should your flight be delayed or cancelled. Bring along your laptop’s charger so you plug in while waiting for your fight.

3. Arrive at the airport at least 3 hours before your scheduled flight. Airport security is tight and may cause delays in boarding. If you are one of the first passengers boarding the plane, you are less likely to be bumped from an overbooked flight.

4. Re-book your seats and print out the confirmation to verify your seat purchase. This can help straighten out any confusion over the airline’s flawed booking system and get your boarded faster.

5. You can request a specific seat upon check-in. You can request for a seat near the exit or bathroom or far away from the noisy galley and heavily travelled path to the restrooms allows you to work during the flight without needless distractions.

6. Plan your travel route from the airport to your destination before leaving home and get an approximate estimate of the cost of the cab fare. Keep this cash handy and make sure the cabbie does not give you the scenic tour.

7. Pack for only half of the days you will be staying in Hawaii and take advantage of the hotel’s laundry service.

8. Roll up your socks and place them inside your shoes to increase the room on your luggage and keep your shoes from crushing blows by baggage handlers.

9. Call your hotel before packing and inquire what items the hotel provides. Most hotels provide a hair dryer, iron, and coffee maker in the room.

10. Keep in mind that Hawaii weather is very mild, but November is the rainy season. Pack your swimsuit, a rain jacket, umbrella, and dress for warm weather.

These tips for business travel to Hawaii will help your trip go smoothly and free up a few extra moments to experience the Hawaii sights and scenery during your trip.
